Professor Nandini Das

Nandini Das is Professor of English Literature at the University of Liverpool, UK. She studied English at Jadavpur University, India, before coming to the UK as a Rhodes Scholar to read English at University College, Oxford, followed by a MPhil and doctorate at Trinity College, Cambridge. She works on Renaissance literature and cultural history, with special emphasis on travel and cross-cultural encounters between Europe and Asia in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and has published widely in the fields of travel writing, transculturality, and early modern literary studies. She has undertaken a number of research projects funded by the AHRC, the Leverhulme Trust, the UK-India government funded UKIERI grants, and currently leads the ‘Travel, Transculturality and Identity in Early Modern England’ (TIDE) project, funded by the European Research Council. She is a long term member of the Peer Review College of the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and has served on a number of UK research committees and consultations, including AHRC Moderating panels, Global Challenges Research Fund evaluation panels, Strategic Reviewers' groups, EqUIP and FP9 Consultations, among others. She regularly presents television and radio programmes on her research as an AHRC-BBC New Generation Thinker. She is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA).
