Imperial West Technology Campus
Research and Translation Hub at Imperial West
Imperial College London has established the new Research and Translation Hub as the centrepiece of its Imperial West Campus. The hub provides high specification, multidisciplinary research space on a campus that has created a single location for researchers, global business, small and medium-sized enterprises, spin-outs and large international universities.
The hub will initially focus on next-generation materials. This is expected to include:
- Plastic Electronic Materials and Devices
- Synthetic Biology
- Translational Molecular Research.
These are all disciplines in which Imperial College currently carries out world-class research, and is engaged in collaborative work with strategic partners.
By bringing together these rapidly developing areas of research in one location, the college will encourage strong relationships and partnerships to develop.
To facilitate collaboration across disciplines and to create an environment suited to discovery, the hub has been designed to support flexible and adaptable working spaces.
It is expected that this environment will increase the commercial prospects of the hub’s research, and accelerate its impact on economic growth.
A new ‘business incubator’ will offer the largest concentration of affordable, flexible laboratory and office space (with specialised commercialisation services) in London.
The incubator will accommodate each stage of a company's growth, from its early stages through to maturity, providing scalable next-generation facilities.
As well as the funding from the UKRPIF, the £150 million hub has also received £90 million of investment in technology ventures from Voreda Capital, and £25 million from Imperial College itself.
