Dr Carol Bell
Dr Carol Bell is a former Managing Director of the Global Oil & Gas Group at the Chase Manhattan Bank (1997-1999).
She has an MA in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, a BA in Earth Sciences (Geology) from the Open University and an MA and a PhD from the institute of Archaeology, UCL.
Dr Bell started her career in 1980 as a Commercial Analyst with RTZ Oil and Gas, joined Charterhouse Petroleum as a Commercial Executive in 1984 and moved to UBS Phillips and Drew as European Oil Analyst in 1986. Dr Bell was appointed Vice President, Equity Research at Credit Suisse First Boston in 1990. In 1991, she joined JP Morgan and was Head of European Equity Research and a Managing Director of its Investment Bank until her move to the Chase Manhattan Bank.
Since 2000, Dr Bell has held a number of non-executive roles and is currently a Non-Executive Director of TransGlobe Energy, Tharisa plc, Bonheur ASA and the BlackRock Energy and Resources Investment Trust. She is a founder director of Chapter Zero, a network to support Non-executive Directors in climate change engagement and the first woman to serve on the board of the Football Association of Wales.
She is a board member at The Development Bank of Wales and chairs its Investment Committee. She was Chairman of the Investments Committee of Girton College, Cambridge until May 2014 and serves on the College’s campaign board. She is also Vice President of the National Museum of Wales, Chair of the British School at Athens and one of the founder Directors of Chapter Zero (a network to help Non-executive Directors of public companies to engage with climate risk).
She is originally from Wales and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
